Nebraska wheat condition rating ticks higher

The USDA says Nebraska’s winter wheat crop saw improvements during December.

The USDA says 37% of the winter wheat crop is in good to excellent shape, up 2% on the month, with 48% of the crop now called fair, an increase of 9% from the end of November.

15% of Nebraska’s winter wheat crop is rated poor to very poor, down 11%.

Parts of the state did report better soil moisture levels, but more than half of topsoil and subsoil remain short to very short.

The USDA’s weekly crop progress and condition numbers resume in April.
