National Pork Board to meet with IL producers

The National Pork Board meets in Chicago this week with Illinois Pork producers, continuing its tradition of meeting with a state group at the first of every year.

Pork Board president Everett Forkner of Richards, Missouri says they’ll talk with Illinois producers about issues facing pork producers nationally, and, regionally.

Forkner says they’ll visit the Fair Oaks Dairy Adventure Education Center in Fair Oaks, Indiana to learn more about the potential for a pork production educational component there. He says Illinois and Indiana producers strongly support the proposed project that would be aimed at urban consumers, giving them “an up close look at a working hog farm.”

Forkner says they will also meet with executives of McDonald’s – a major customer of the pork industry – and Dairy Management Incorporated (DMI) to share information about environmental sustainability efforts of both the pork and the dairy checkoff. The meeting is this Wednesday through Friday.
