National FFA members discuss invaluable experiences

FFA members from all 50 states and Puerto Rico are in Indianapolis this week for the 95th National FFA Convention and Expo.

Aaralynn Collier is a sophomore with the Hartington Newcastle FFA Chapter in Nebraska.

“I like meeting new people and I like the group that we have as our FFA family and our agriculture teacher is very fun,” she says.

Hunter McArthur, a member of the Southmont FFA Chapter in Indiana, says he’s gained skills from being involved in the organization.

“I’ve gained a lot of knowledge about our land and soil, and I’ve also learned how to run a meeting through Parliamentary Procedure,” he says.

Southmont’s Daniel Simpson says it’s great when FFA members around the country get together.

“I as well like meeting new people, seeing where they’re from, and seeing what’s different about what we do here compared to what they do,” he says.

Kate Klein is the president of the Madison Central FFA Chapter in South Dakota.

“FFA is based around agriculture which is an important part of our economy. It’s good to understand what’s going on in our world, and I think this is a good place to do that and you also meet a lot of new people, broaden your horizon, and learn about different aspects of the agricultural world,” she says.

Kassidi Metcalf is the president and Alyson Williams is the vice president of the Edwards County FFA Chapter in Illinois.

They have some advice for younger FFA members.

“Try new things. I’ve completed a lot of differnet Career Development Events (CDE). I didn’t like all of them, I wasn’t good at all of them, but you find out what you are good at and you may not expect it,” Metcalf says.

Williams says, “just do it because you won’t regret it and it’s fun.”
