NASS will resurvey crop producers

The USDA will resurvey crop farmers in 14 states on their planted acres.

Lance Honig with the National Ag Statistics Service says there was excessive rain all spring long, so planting intentions couldn’t be turned into actual planting in the first two weeks of June, “You know we had a lot more – at least – more of those intentions left in the reporting that what we would see in a typical year. So, we’re going to go back here in July and we’re going to revisit those fields that were still left to be planted.”

Before the June report was released Friday analysts were generally expecting less corn acres and more soybean acres, “But, we went directly to the producers, in fact, between those two surveys that we did. We were reaching out to almost 100,000 farmers asking them to tell us ‘what did you plant and what do you still intend to plant?’ And that’s the basis to those acreage numbers (in the June report).”

Honig says the results will be in the August 12th crop production report.  The last time there was a resurvey was in 2015.

The resurvey includes corn and soybean producers in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Ohio, South Dakota, and Wisconsin. Also, certain crops in Arkansas, Kansas, New York and North Dakota.
