NAMI: meat and poultry industry welcomes Trump’s Executive Order

The North American Meat Institute says President Trump’s executive order to keep meat processing plants open will protect against meat shortages.

President and CEO Julie Anna Potts says it will help advert hardship for producers and keep safe and affordable food on the tables of American families.

Potts says feeding the nation depends on the safety and hard work of the men and women who work in these facilities. She says the Executive Order will ensure the industry uses worker protection practices in place, including the CDC and OSHA guidance released April 26.

The order gives Ag Secretary Perdue the authority to ensure the industry has ongoing access to supplies it needs to remain in operation. It also will provide relief to livestock producers who were facing the choice of having to euthanize animals because there was nowhere to send them.
