Moving the RFS forward

There is a false notion that the Renewable Fuel Standard ends in 2022, but that is not the case.

Geoff Cooper, president and CEO of the Renewable Fuels Association, says even those in the industry sometimes misunderstand the law.

“Through 2022, volumes are specified by Congress, after 2022 it’s up to EPA to set those volumes but they have some certain criteria and a set of factors that they have to look at as they set those volumes,” he says.

He says they will continue to ramp up education efforts within the industry and with the new Congress.

Growth Energy CEO Emily Skor says industry leaders are working together to move the Renewable Fuel Standard forward.

“Moving the RFS forward means that we blend more biofuels every year and so that’s going to come down to making sure two things – one that the targets themselves, the renewable volume obligations move forward and job number two is to make sure that if there are any waivers, those gallons are reallocated”

Cooper and Skor spoke to Brownfield at the National Biodiesel Conference in San Diego.
