Mostly dry conditions return ahead of spring planting

A farmer from eastern Kansas says spring is starting out dry again.

LaVell Winsor says a lot of fieldwork has already been completed.

“February turned out to be beautiful. We were able to apply all of our fertilizer for the corn. That’s all ready to go. Once conditions get right, we’ll be ready to plant.”

Winsor says the wet, cooler conditions early this week will delay planting slightly, but it’s not a bad thing, because of the additional moisture coming into the dry soil profile.

“I think they’re now saying three quarters of an inch of rain to an inch.”

She says spring planting is still on track for early to mid-April.
