MO State Fair might not see many out of state exhibitors

The director of the Missouri State Fair says initially, there were concerns the closures of neighboring state fairs could cause a large number of out-of-state livestock exhibitors at Missouri’s fair.

Mark Wolfe tells Brownfield too many outside entries would have caused crowding in livestock barns, but he said that likely won’t be the case.

“A lot of these state fairs around us are going forward with some version of their livestock shows this summer,” he said.

Wolfe said states like Iowa, Indiana and Illinois are planning to hold livestock shows in place of their state fairs.

“Based on what we’re seeing now with this many of these livestock shows being brought back up, with an intention to put them on in their home state, I think we probably will not see the influx that we thought we might,” he said.

Wolfe said he expects attendance for this year’s fair to be down be is not sure by how much.
