MMPA takes stake in GoodSport Nutrition
The Michigan Milk Producers Association has announced it has made a strategic investment into the Chicago-based start-up GoodSport Nutrition.
MMPA President and CEO Joe Diglio tells Brownfield the move secures the cooperative’s ability to find alternative uses for byproducts created from processing ultra-filtered milk at its southern Michigan plant.
“The partnership should help really move this not only forward, but explore alternatives to partner with the product that’s being created, and to continue to expand the market presence for both of our organizations,” he says.
Founder and CEO of GoodSport Nutrition Michelle McBride says she created the company after working with Dairy Management Inc. as a mom of a competitive athlete looking for better refueling options.
“Milk is more hydrating than not only water but traditional sports drinks,” she shares. “And so I thought, ‘I wonder if there’s a way to extract the electrolytes and all of milk’s hydration goodness into a sports drink?’”
MMPA has been one of the original ingredient suppliers for GoodSport Nutrition since it entered the market in 2021.
