Mixed month of weather in Indiana to end 2019

December was a mixed month for weather in Indiana.

The USDA says temperatures started off warmer than normal ahead of a drop that brought snow throughout the state, followed by warmer than normal conditions to cap off the month, which allowed some producers to till fields and apply lime.

94% of Indiana’s topsoil and 89% of the subsoil have adequate to surplus moisture levels, while 55% of winter wheat is in good to excellent condition.

Livestock is in good shape overall, even with muddy conditions in some feedlots, but hay and forage quality and availability issues are areas of concern.
