Mixed December weather in Indiana

Indiana started December cold, but warmed up as the month progressed.

The USDA says temperatures for the month averaged more than two degrees above normal and while precipitation was more than an inch below usual levels, late month snow and rain did help recharge soil moisture, but also led to muddy pasture conditions and standing water, especially in southern areas of the state.

Despite that precipitation, livestock conditions are mostly good and the winter wheat conditions improved slightly on the month.

The USDA’s weekly crop progress and condition numbers resume in April.
