Missouri wheat rating improves

Missouri’s winter wheat condition rating improved from the end of November to the end of December.

The USDA says 53% of the crop is in good to excellent condition, up 3% on the month, with 45% called fair, also up 3%, and 2% in poor shape.

Average temperatures during December were about two and a half degrees warmer than normal and while precipitation was below the usual levels, nearly the entire state has adequate to surplus soil moisture.

The USDA’s weekly crop progress and condition numbers resume in April.
