Missouri Prime Beef Packers will close in April

A southwest Missouri beef processing plant is preparing to close next month.

Missouri Prime Beef Packers will close in late April, because the Missouri Department of Natural Resources didn’t approve the company’s clean water treatment proposal.

State representative Jim Kalberloh says “farmers from southwest Missouri have benefitted from the company being there.”

He says before the packing plant opened, producers had to haul cattle into Kansas or Iowa to be processed.

Kalberloh and other state lawmakers are trying to find a way to keep the plant open or bring another business into the community. The company says the closure could be permanent or temporary.

Missourinet contributed to this report.

  • What city is this packing plant in and who’s there competition is and where are they distributing there products Maybe they need to get more buyers out in country to buy cattle.
