Missouri farmer going organic will grow hemp

A Missouri grower and his family are transitioning to organic crop production and as soon as they can, they’ll start growing hemp. David Yoder tells Brownfield Ag News, “As of right now, it looks like next year we’ll dive head-first into it – a little bit more than we were allowed to this year. So, we’re ready to go.”

Yoder told Brownfield at the Missouri Hemp Association conference that there’s still a lot to learn and that’s why he and his family attended the event in Columbia, “To kind of learn what it takes to grow the product. How it grows. Some of the benefits to growing it. Of course, it always goes to the bottom line. You know, it’s got to be profitable.”

Yoder grows corn and soybeans with his brother, sisters and father near Garden City, in western Missouri, and is on track to be certified organic in two years.
