Minnesota Soybean Research and Promotion Council employs “sweat equity” as farm incomes remain low

Commodity groups continue to look for ways to be effective and efficient while farm incomes remain low.

Minnesota Soybean Research and Promotion Council chairman Cole Trebesch says the Council has been working on what it calls “sweat equity projects.”

“Take more staff time, but not a lot of dollars.”

Trebesch, who grows corn and soybeans, custom feeds hogs, and raises cattle near Sleepy Eye in south-central Minnesota, tells Brownfield a lot of time and energy goes into breaking down trade barriers.

“A lot of times it’s just looking at little details that (might) need to be changed in a law, or something that if our staff spends some time writing letters and getting them to the right people, hoping we can make some changes.”

He says the council is also very meticulous when considering research projects to ensure they benefits Minnesota farmers.
