Minnesota Farmers Union president frustrated with Trump EPA

The EPA’s supplemental biofuels proposal has drawn the ire of Minnesota Farmers Union president Gary Wertish.

“We get a lot of promises, and then nothing happens. Or broken promises I guess is a better way to say it.”

He tells Brownfield the biggest problem with EPA’s proposed rule is using Department of Energy recommendations to reallocate waived gallons instead of actual gallons exempted.

Wertish says President Trump needs to take some ownership in the battle between Big Oil and renewable fuels.

“He keeps telling us that he supports (and) loves our farmers and supports biofuels. But with (the) EPA (choosing oil refineries over biofuels), the blame’s gotta go on the President too. It can’t just be put on the EPA that they’re handling it.”

Wertish is also frustrated that the EPA proposal does not account for biofuels gallons lost the last three years.

The comment period for the supplemental biofuels rule ends November 29th.
