Minnesota farmer harvests soybean crop to remember

It’s been a soybean harvest to remember for a farmer in southwest Minnesota.

Mike Landuyt of Walnut Grove tells Brownfield he can’t recall another year when he’s had all his beans out in September.

“We had (sort of) set a goal to try to make it yesterday so we could say we did it, and we were fortunate enough to make it. Had some rain showers that kind of came through all around us, but the field we were in missed just enough of them that we were able to keep going and we got done.”

He tells Brownfield the crop was unprecedented in other ways too.

“I don’t know if we’ve ever had soybean yields as good as we were fortunate enough to get this year across all our acres. It’s just been going good.”

Landuyt, the current president of the Minnesota State Cattlemen’s Association, says he plans to begin harvesting grain corn this afternoon.
