Minnesota farm group leaders and Senate Ag Committee member applaud USDA rural investments

USDA’s latest investments in rural infrastructure are being applauded by farm group leaders and a member of the Senate Ag Committee.

Minnesota U.S. Senator Tina Smith says hundreds of millions of dollars from the Inflation Reduction Act will be used to provide basic infrastructure to communities that lack an adequate tax base.

“Those dollars are coming home to be able to build out more opportunity in rural communities.”

Minnesota Farm Bureau president Dan Glessing tells Brownfield the investments add value to agriculture.

“So that we can keep folks on the farm, so that was good to hear.”

And Minnesota Farmers Union president Gary Wertish says farms of all sizes will benefit.

“Helping small farmers get local foods to the market, it’s a lot of different funding available for a lot of different projects and all will be put to good use.”

Brownfield spoke to all three at the Minnesota State Fair Monday following a visit by Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack to announce the USDA investments.
