Minnesota corn planting at 95%, soybeans 74% complete

Most Minnesota farmers have finished planting corn.

The latest weekly crop report from USDA shows that as of Sunday, 95 percent of the state’s intended acreage has been planted.  That’s well ahead of last year’s 46 percent and the five-year average of 77 percent.

Corn emergence, at 57 percent, is 19 days ahead of a year ago and six days ahead of normal.

Soybean planting is 74 percent complete, just over three weeks faster than 2019 and a week and-a-half ahead of average.

About a third of the spring wheat crop was planted last week and is now 70 percent complete overall.

Sugarbeet planting, at 73 percent, is nine days behind average.
