Michigan crops struggle with wet fall

Wet weather has limited harvest progress in Michigan as the first freeze of the year was reported last Monday.

The USDA says corn is now rated at 51 percent good to excellent with 91 percent mature.  Silage harvest is nearly complete, and 30 percent of corn has been harvested for grain, behind last year and the five-year average by 11 percent.

Soybeans are 48 percent good to excellent and 55 percent harvested, dragging behind last year and average.

Dry beans are 97 percent harvested while sugarbeets are at 32 percent and rated 66 percent good to excellent.

Winter wheat is 69 percent planted and 58 percent emerged.
