Michigan announces new ag grant program

Michigan farmers and ag-related businesses can apply for a new grant program.

The Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development says the new Farm Innovation Grant Program is designed to help develop and support innovative solutions to real, immediate, and future problems facing Michigan’s food and agricultural industry.

The department is seeking proposals for innovative solutions for farmers, agricultural processors, and the food and ag supply chain.  The grants will be for up to 200 thousand dollars, and the state is looking for proposals to mitigate climate change, strengthen the supply chain, assist with automation, and build rural resiliency.

The funds were included in the state budget recently signed by Governor Gretchen Whitmer.
