Member of Congress tells Trump to keep immigration and trade separate

Minnesota’s Second District Representative echoes other members of Congress who say President Trump should not intertwine trade and immigration.

Democrat Angie Craig tells Brownfield new tariffs on Mexico could destroy the U.S. Mexico Canada Agreement.

“And we really need people in the room who understand just how bad it is and how much worse it’s going to get if we continue this trade war that we started. It’s just completely self-induced.”

The Trump Administration is meeting with Mexican trade officials this week. The President has given Mexico until Monday to provide border solutions, otherwise five percent tariffs will go into effect.

On China, Craig agrees something had to be done about how the communist country conducts trade.

“The farmers in my district have been awfully patient with the Administration. We all know China was an offender and they need to be held accountable, but the truth is that little bit of pain has turned into a lot of pain.”

President Trump is expected to meet with Chinese President Xi later this month at the G-20 Summit in Japan.
