Meet the Wisconsin FFA “Stars”

The four “Stars” were named at the Wisconsin State FFA Convention on Wednesday evening:

Kayla SchuldKayla Schuld of the Marshfield FFA was named Star in Agriscience, she has logged over 1,000 hours working at the State Forage and Soils Laboratory at the U.W. Ag Research Station in Marshfield. Her main job has been running forage and soil samples for farmers. She is now a student at U.W. River Falls and plans to become a veterinarian. She is also currently working for an inventor at 3-M working on adhesives.

Holly SutcliffeHolly Sutcliffe of the Wisconsin Heights FFA is the 2010 Star in Agribusiness. She has parlayed a passion for Mytonic (fainting) goats into a business. She hopes that by improving the genetics and popularity of the goats, they may someday lose the “rare breed” status. She has sold young goats across the country.

Brad LaackBrad Laack of Plymouth FFA is the Wisconsin Star in Agricultural Placement. Brad works for a custom dairy replacement heifer raising operation as well as a 700-cow dairy herd. He is responsible for a number of animal health and AI duties on the farms. He also has his own beef herd and recently purchased a combine and plans to do custom harvesting later this year.

Josh JosephThe Wisconsin Star Farmer for 2010 is Josh Joseph of the Kickapoo FFA. Josh barters his labor and wages to purchase Holstein bull calves and then raises them for sale as feeders or as finished steers. To date he has sold nearly 300 animals. He is especially proud of a 4.6 death loss on those nearly 300 animals.
