MDARD proposing to restrict fly bait pesticide

The Michigan Department of Agriculture is proposing to restrict the use of a pesticide used in fly bait.

Officials are recommending all formulations of the insecticide methomyl be designated a restricted use pesticide which they say is highly toxic to humans and other mammals when misused.

Only one product is currently registered in Michigan which is used as a fly control in agricultural settings, Golden Malrin.

Public comment on the recommendation is open until January 14th.
