Making sure Rural America’s voice is heard
Rural America had a big impact on the 2016 Election and the executive director of the Illinois Farm Bureau says that momentum is likely to carry over in the 2018 Farm Bill debate.
Mark Gebhards says the incoming administration won’t forget just how impactful the rural vote can be anytime soon. “I think President-elect Trump certainly recognizes both the impact and the importance of the rural vote,” he says. “He (Trump) has referenced that as he has discussed the Secretary of Agriculture position and the US EPA and key agencies that impact agriculture.”
Gebhards tells Brownfield and that should benefit the agriculture industry ahead of the 2018 Farm Bill discussions. “It’s certainly something we will remind folks about as we work with Congress and the new administration,” he says. “I do think it is important and we can build some momentum off of.”
