Loss of TPP puts US ag at disadvantage

The American Feed Industry Association says US ag exports are increasing, but so is competition in the global market.

Gina Tumbarello, director of international policy and trade says the Trans Pacific Partnership was an opportunity to address the loss of market share in that 12-country region.

“To help us compete on a more level playing field in the region. Not having this agreement is really to our detriment. It means we’re going to continue losing market share,” says Tumbarello.

She tells Brownfield there is still hope that the administration can negotiate new trade agreements with countries in that area.

“I think there’s a lot to be gained in that region and if it’s not through this multilateral trade agreement TPP, then hopefully our administration will see the value in moving forward still with trade agreements even if its bilaterally,” says Tumbarello.

Tumbarello says it’s important to advance the economic interests of agriculture in that region as well as protect the industry from growing competition in that part of the world.

  • We are seeing the result of mass trade agreements by virtue of the mess in the Europe right now. The U. S. does not need one massive agreement with Asian rim countries.

    We do not need TPP!!!!

We need to seek individual agreements with countries, just as President Trump has stated; if they do not abide by the agreement you can kick that country to the curb and move on!

There is a lot of sneaky stuff written into TPP and it sure did not benefit American taxpayers or American workers!
