Loeffler of Georgia is newest Senate Ag Committee member

The newest member of the Senate Agriculture Committee is Republican Kelly Loeffler of Georgia. Loeffler, who grew up on a McLean County, Illinois farm, was sworn in Monday to replace Johnny Isakson, who resigned at the end of 2019 because of declining health. An Agri-Pulse article says the Ag Committee seat taken by Loeffler was vacated by Georgia Senator David Perdue.

Loeffler brings the number of women in the Senate to 26, eight of whom are on the Ag Committee. Loeffler is also on the Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, which oversees the FDA.

She plans to run in November to finish the last two years of Isakson’s term.
