LoamBio launches microbial product and carbon market program in Upper Midwest

Soybean growers in the Upper Midwest have an opportunity to capitalize on a new carbon market.

Jake Olson with Australian biologicals company LoamBio says they are launching a microbial technology called CarbonBuilder that increases stable carbon in the soil.

“That really harnesses the technology that Loam has been working on over the past six or seven years. And the second (product) would be SecondCrop, which is our carbon market program that enables farmers to have the most control of their carbon assets and participate in carbon programs.”

He tells Brownfield this carbon market differentiates itself by offering an easy entry point and strong return on investment.

“We’re able to build stable carbon (and) what that really means is that we’re able to get a higher premium for those carbon credits. Roughly 40 percent higher than what you would see in the marketplace today.”

Olson says CarbonBuilder and SecondCrop will be available for the 2024 crop year in the Dakotas, Nebraska, Iowa, and Minnesota.
