Less than 60% of Minnesota corn rated good to excellent

The condition of the Minnesota corn crop improved slightly on the week but remains lower than normal.

In its latest crop report, the USDA says 59 percent of corn is rated good to excellent.

That number was 58 percent a week ago and in the upper 70’s in late June last year.

Soybean planting is almost complete, and 87 percent of the crop has emerged.  Soybean condition rated 66 percent good to excellent.

Nearly 70 percent of spring wheat has jointed, five days behind normal.  Eighty-three percent of the crop is rated good to excellent.

And the first cutting of alfalfa is about three-quarters harvest, with hay condition rated 75 percent good to excellent.
