Less than 20% of harvest remains in Illinois

Illinois farmers are down to the last 20% of harvest to round out the month of October.

The USDA reports as of Sunday 89% of soybeans and 81% of corn have been harvested, both ahead of this time last year and the five-year average pace.

The winter wheat crop is 90% planted with 63% emerged. In the first condition rating for this winter wheat crop the agency rates it 65% good to excellent, compared to just 35% during this week in 2022.

Rainfall did delay some progress last week with only 4 days reported suitable for fieldwork.
