Land O Lakes & Soil Health Institute launch carbon credit program

Two new partnerships will put farmers a step closer to selling carbon credits and capitalizing on their sustainable farming practices.

Land O’ Lakes subsidiary Truterra launched TruCarbon Thursday, which they say will help farmers generate and sell carbon credits to private sector buyers.  Truterra says the program uses precision data and verification methods and makes it easy for farmers to develop and sell the credits so they can focus on production.

The Soil Health Institute is collaborating with Truterra to provide technical assistance including sampling strategies, data analysis, and quantification of sequestered carbon in soils.

Another carbon credit partnership between technology provider CIBO (SEE’ bow) and land managers at the Peoples Company announced Thursday they will place 20-thousand acres of land into the CIBO platform.  Their joint statement says this allows them to sell carbon credits creating up to 400-thousand dollars of new revenue in the first year for landowners.

Microsoft is one company buying carbon credits and has committed to buying credits through TruTerra.
