Kentucky crops: 36% corn and 19% soybeans planted

The planting pace in Kentucky continues to run ahead of the average.  The corn crop is 36% planted, compared to the previous week at 14% and the 5-year average of 23% with 12% of the crop emerged.  Soybeans are 19% planted compared to 7% the previous week and the 5-year average of 6%.

Winter wheat conditions are mostly good, as 10% of the crop is rated excellent and 57% is rated good.  Frost damage has been limited. In addition to planting corn and soybeans, farmers have been setting tobacco transplants and 12% of the crop is rated excellent and 67% is called good.  Pasture conditions are rated 60% good to excellent.

Topsoil is rated 84% adequate to surplus and subsoil moisture is rated 88% adequate to surplus.
