Iowa Representative Axne urges action on USMCA

Iowa Third District Representative Cindy Axne is urging House Democratic leaders to act on the USMCA trade agreement.

Axne, who is also a Democrat, says she made that request in a letter to House Speaker Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Majority Leader Steny Hoyer. Axne says is hearing from many constituents about the importance of ensuring market access for Iowa’s ag and manufacturing products in Canada and Mexico, Iowa’s top two trading partners.

There are reports this week that Mexico is pushing back on labor enforcement changes being pushed by House Democrats. There are also concerns that impeachment proceedings could push a USMCA vote into next year.

Axne’s district covers southwest Iowa.
