Iowa FFA’ers assist with flood recovery in Nebraska

A group of FFA’ers from north-central Iowa will be in eastern Nebraska this weekend, assisting a cattle producer with flood cleanup efforts.

Eighteen students, members of the Charles City and Rockford FFA chapters, are making the nearly five-hour trek to Schuyler, Nebraska. Charles City FFA members Bronson Forsyth and Lauren Connell say they’re excited to help.

“The idea was brought up about going to Nebraska and we were all really excited about it. A lot of people signed up and were ready to go,” Forsyth says.

“It’s a really good opportunity for us—learning to serve and helping other people,” says Connell.

Charles City FFA advisor Jim Lundberg says the students raised five-thousand dollars to cover the cost of their trip.

“It’s just not the kids going and the teachers going. It truly is the community and the outpouring of funds when they heard what we’re doing and they wanted to help,” Lundberg says.

Lundberg credits local radio station, KCHA, and news director Kellan Heavican—a Nebraska native—for helping the students with their fundraising efforts.

The FFA’ers will be helping Drew Wolfe of Schuyler, who suffered heavy damage to his feed yards and had cattle stranded by the flood.
