Iowa farmer waiting for corn to dry down

A central Iowa farmer is waiting for corn to dry down before advancing with harvest.

Corey Hillebo of Polk City says he picked some shorter season hybrids September 29th before switching to soybeans.

“What we’re up against now is the corn really hasn’t dried down that much from when we started corn 10 to 12 days ago.”

He tells Brownfield moisture content is still above 22 percent.

“So if we could get a good run in, I would say probably two and-a-half, three weeks (to finish corn harvest). But if we’ve got to dry it all from that point, that could slow us down.”

Hillebo is done harvesting soybeans and says yields were better than expected.
