Iowa farmer looks ahead to 2023 growing season

A southeast Iowa farmer says he’s optimistic about the 2023 growing season after a fair amount of moisture this winter.

Tim Meyer raises row crops and livestock in Henry County.

“I’m very thankful for the moisture we’ve received here recently,” he said. “I think we’re out of the drought monitor, which is nice. We’ve got some decent subsoil moisture.”

But he tells Brownfield input costs remain elevated.

“Diesel is obviously a concern,” Meyer said. “It really has not come down as much as I would like to see it come down. We’re definitely not even close to two-or-three years ago. That’s a right-now cost and it’s something that most farmers just can’t plan ahead.”

Meyer says the cost and availability of parts is another concern.
