Iowa farmer feels optimistic about 2023 crop year

A southwest Iowa farmer says expectations are high for the 2023 growing season.

“Our optimism is we are going to raise a record crop like we try to every year,” said Jeff Jorgenson of Fremont County.

But, Jorgenson tells Brownfield his area has been recovering from last year’s drought. “There is a little concern about moisture levels in the ground,” he said, “but hopefully we get some beneficial rains to help us get things started.”

Jorgenson says a good winter snow packed has helped recharge subsoils.
