Iowa crops just slightly behind their normal pace

The latest crop progress report for Iowa shows 60 percent of corn has reached the dent stage and 18 percent of soybeans have started to turn color. Both numbers are about three days behind their respective five-year averages.

Corn rated 62 percent good to excellent, with soybeans at 61 percent.

“As we enter September crops continue to move towards maturity with harvest now just a few weeks away.  It is great to see some farmers aerially seeding cover crops.  Seed corn harvest is also getting underway,” said Iowa ag secretary Bill Northey.
