Insecticide can help farmers in 2018

An agronomist with Ohio-based Seed Consultants says farmers should consider using insecticide on soybeans this year.

Bill McDonald says although it has been cold, many insects will survive the winter season.

“We’ve all gotten away from untreated soybeans but just because it’s treated doesn’t necessarily mean it has an insecticide on it also,” he says. “All the fungicide in the world isn’t going to stop a bug from chewing on the seed.”

He tells Brownfield insecticide will help farmers improve their bottom line in 2018.

“If we’ve got an insecticide on our soybeans, this year will pay big dividends versus some years in the past,” he says.

McDonald says farmers should be prepared for continued cooler and wetter than normal conditions as the growing season approaches.
