Indiana State Fair begins 17-day run

It is opening day of the 2010 Indiana State Fair, and State Fair Board President Roger Hale tells Brownfield they are ready and excited about what they have planned for this year’s 17-day run.

“We try to make it an educational tool, and also a place for family entertainment, family enjoyment,” said Hale. “We try to make it just a great atmosphere for people.”

Weather of course will be a factor when it comes to attendance and when it comes to livestock on exhibit, but Roger Hale says they’re doing all they can to makes sure the animals are comfortable.

“We have a adopted an animal welfare and care program,” said Hale. “We try to make everyone more conscientious of really watching their animals, the first priority is the health of the animals while they are here.”

2010 is the “Year of the Pig” at the Indiana State Fair.

“We provide a landscape, a canvas, a platform for these commodity groups and this year, the pork producers to tell their story,” Hoye said. “A very important story in Indiana, we’ve done it with corn, we’ve done it with hardwoods and tomatoes, and it seemed to be the right year to do it for the pork industry.”

The2010 Indiana State Fair runs through August 22.
