Indiana Senator optimistic for agriculture

Indiana’s Democratic Senator says he’s cautiously optimistic about working with the next administration.

Joe Donnelly says he does anticipate a less burdensome regulatory environment for farmers.  “I think that there are significant opportunities,” he says.  “I think that areas like WOTUS – Waters of the US, where we’ve battled back and forth over the years, will be in a much better position in the years ahead.”

He tells Brownfield he does have some concerns relating to the Renewable Fuels Standard.  “I’ve seen some of the comments from Mr. Pruitt regarding the RFS,” he says.  “I’m a huge backer of it and I think it is critically important to our farmers and we’re going to fight for it every inch of the way.”

Donnelly says he’s hopeful for an economy that continues to grow and a better trading environment.  “All we ask for is a fair playing field,” he says.  “When the rules are the same for everybody, Americans can out compete anyone and that’s what we look forward to.”

Donnelly spoke to Brownfield at the Indiana Farm Bureau’s Annual Meeting in Fort Wayne.
