India aims to triple egg production

India plans to triple its egg production to combat malnutrition.  India – already among the world’s top egg producers – needs more eggs to satisfy domestic demand.  India’s Agriculture Ministry says that at its current production pace, per capita availability is only 63 eggs per year, while the recommended minimum is 180.  So India’s government is taking steps to promote poultry farming. The agriculture ministry says one out of four children up to five years of age suffers from malnutrition and officials within the ministry say eggs can help remedy that.
