Illinois crop condition ratings drop as harvest kicks off

USDA data confirms harvest kicked-off in Illinois last week, but crop conditions are falling.

With nearly a whole week suitable for field work, Illinois farmers were able to harvest 1% of the state’s corn crop as of Sunday. 93% of corn has dented and 51% has reached maturity with a good to excellent rating of 62% down 5 percentage points on the week and 10 points on the year.

Soybeans turning color reached 63% with 33% of the crop dropping leaves and while some farmers may be testing combines in bean fields, less than 1% is harvested. Illinois soybeans are rated 61% good to excellent, down 4 points on the week and 10 on the year.
