Illinois corn, soybean planting nearing finish line

A productive week for field work across much of Illinois last week pushed corn and soybean planting closer to the finish line.

The USDA reports as of Sunday 98% of the corn crop is planted with 90% emerged. Illinois corn is rated 65% good to excellent, up 9 percentage points from the previous week.

Soybeans reached 88% planted with 67% emerged. That crop is rated 67% good to excellent, up 11 points from the week before.

Ninety-three percent of winter wheat has headed as some areas of the state prepare for harvest later in the month. The state’s wheat crop is rated 60% good to excellent, a slight increase from the week prior.
