Illinois corn and soybean harvest slightly behind average

Illinois farmers had a good week of harvest weather, but USDA data shows corn and soybean harvest are still behind average for the state.

As of Sunday, 13% of corn had been harvested, up from 4% the previous week but below the five-year average of 24%. 73% of the crop has reached maturity which is in line with average. Illinois corn is rated 73% good to excellent.

Soybean harvest reached 11%, a 10-point increase from the previous week, but slightly behind the average of 16%. 60% of the crop is dropping leaves, also five points behind average. Illinois soybeans are rated 73% good to excellent.

Winter wheat planting also began in Illinois last week with farmers getting 8% in the ground.
