Illinois corn harvest continues, soybeans getting underway
A mostly dry week allowed Illinois farmers to get started on the corn and soybean harvest. USDA reporters say 1% of the soybeans and 11% of the state’s corn is now in the bin.
As of Sunday, USDA says 79% of soybeans were coloring and 54% were dropping leaves.
Seventy-two percent of the state’s corn is mature and 96% is dented.
Most of the state remained dry, but some southern Illinois counties had areas receiving up to an inch of rain. Overall, topsoil moisture is 61% adequate and 27% short.
