IL crop conditions dropping despite recent rain

Falling Illinois crop conditions reflect need for more rainfall.

USDA says Illinois’ corn silking is well behind at 15 percent. The crop is rated 60 percent good to excellent, down five percent on the week.

Soybeans blooming is nearly to 30 percent, two percent are setting pods. Illinois soybeans are rated 53 percent good to excellent, down nine percent on the week.

Pasture conditions in the state continued to fall last week but largely remain fair or better; 55 percent are rated good to excellent. Ground conditions are much drier than the prior week; topsoil moisture is nine percent very short, 22 percent short, and 59 percent adequate. Subsoil moisture is nine percent very short, 23 percent short and 65 percent adequate.
