HPAI detected at a commercial turkey facility in Michigan

Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza has been detected in a commercial turkey facility in Muskegon County, Michigan. This is the second detection of HPAI in a commercial facility since the disease was first reported in 2022.

State veterinarian Dr. Nora Wineland says it is essential for producers to continue to take preventative steps to protect flocks from wild birds.  She says there are still a lot of wild birds present as temperature have been mild this winter.

The premises is currently under quarantine and the flock will be depopulated to prevent the spread of the disease.
