Hoosier pork producers feed hungry families

Indiana’s 3,000 pork producers have donated more than 2,000 pounds of holiday ham to Gleaners Food Bank.

Joe Baldwin, president of Indiana Pork’s board of directors, says pork producers take feeding the world, and their neighbors, very seriously.

“We produce a safe and abundant food supply and we recognize that sometimes the cost of groceries might be more than some families can afford,” he says. “We know that statistics show that 1 in 6 adults and 1 in 5 children in America face hunger and 49 million Americans struggle to put food on the table.”

He tells Brownfield pork farmers give throughout the year, but they also wanted to provide meals for people struggling during the holidays.

“We want this ham donation to help those who are struggling to put food on the table and help make Christmas a bit brighter for our fellow Hoosiers,” he says.

The donation, made on Monday, was in time for Senior Shopping Day at Gleaners Food Bank in Indianapolis.

Indiana Pork, in partnership with Feeding Indiana’s Hungry and the Indiana Soybean Alliance, gives throughout the year through the million meals program.
