Hog facilities have big economic impact

An economic impact study has determined that Premium Standard Farms and Farmland Foods contribute $1.1 billion annually to Missouri’s economy.

The study, done by University of Missouri Commercial Agriculture Program economists and reported by Pork Network, analyzed the impacts of Premium Standard Farms and Farmland Foods on specific regions as well as on the entire state of Missouri.

The study indicates that Premium Standard, a vertically integrated pork producer headquartered in Princeton, Missouri, has annual revenue of $265 million and a total economic impact of $382 million on the state.

On the other hand, Farmland has a hog slaughter facility in Sullivan County and a ham processing facility in Jackson County. Annual revenue of the Sullivan County plant is $425 million, with a total economic impact of $601 million to the state of Missouri. Farmland’s ham plant in Jackson County generates $100 million in revenue, with a total impact of $142 million on the state of Missouri.
